  • I bet everyone else already knew this

I just realized that the name of “Silk” soymilk is not only short for Soy Milk but is also a pun on the French word for silk, “soie” (which is pronounced “swah” — rhymes with “roi” and “quoi” — but which would sound like “soy” with English pronunciation rules).

  • Two years of nyxieness

Last night, Candice and I celebrated two years together over dinner at Juniper. On one hand it’s hard to believe it’s only been two years — it feels like we’ve just always been together. On the other hand, yay, two years! There were times when I wasn’t sure how things were going to end up, […]

  • Apparently the Web is public! Who knew?

Candice reads a Web forum about wedding-related stuff over at WeddingBells.ca. WeddingBells is a major Canadian bridal magazine, so the forums there are both popular and high-profile. I bought a bike today! It’s a 1981 Suzuki GS250T. Yep, 250 — I wanted to start off with something small, and this keeps insurance sensible (having had a learner’s permit for only a month doesn’t get me any big breaks). It’s in decent shape — it’s been down a few times in its life, […]

  • Motorcycle course, part 3: Testing time

(The first part of this entry is here, and the second part is here.) Sunday was a bit cooler and had a breeze, which was a very nice change. It was hot Saturday. I did manage to discover that my jacket was waterproof, but I learned it trying to get moisture from the inside out. […]

  • Motorcycle course, part 2: learning to ride!

(The first part of this entry is here.) The practical part of the course started out simple: first, we learned how to walk a motorcycle (walk along beside the bike, not on it, and lean it towards you especially when turning away from the side you’re standing on), and then how to balance it at […]
