Motorcycle for meeee

1981 Suzuki GS250TI bought a bike today! It’s a 1981 Suzuki GS250T. Yep, 250 — I wanted to start off with something small, and this keeps insurance sensible (having had a learner’s permit for only a month doesn’t get me any big breaks). It’s in decent shape — it’s been down a few times in its life, but that’s how it goes for a beginner’s bike, and it’s been nicely taken care of since. New pipes borrowed from a Harley Sportster, seat re-covered by the previous owner, and delivered with safety for 950 loonies. Insurance should only be about $700 for the year.

If all goes well, I should be on the road by the end of the week. Now to get that club membership. (Can it get dorkier than that? I don’t think it can.)

  1. Cool, thanks. I’ve been meaning to do my M2, but I keep procrastinating, thinking that I’ll never be able to afford to insure a bike. I was thinking of one of the little Ninja 250’s…

  2. Take a course to get your M2 — my $350 Gearing Up course made it easy to pass the M2 (you do it there, not on the roads) *and* pays for itself in one or two years of insurance. You can find a course near you here. A 250 Ninja would make a great first bike for insurance and shiny-side-up reasons, and beginner bikes tend to be in high enough demand that you’ll be able to sell it for what you paid for it a year from now. Quite a bit zippier than this 250, too :-)
