  1. I love the part where they say the film also suffers by having an entirely nonsensical plot.

    Nonsensical? Douglas Adams? NO! SAY IT ISN’T SO!!! :-|

  2. For what it’s worth, it really does look eye-wateringly bad. I nearly threw up two pork buns in the movie theatre when the trailer came on, and I’m a man with a steel stomach and a deep possessiveness when it comes to pork buns.

    The person they found to play Zaphod needs to be tasered. In the crotch. So very many, many times.

    This not only doesn’t work, it also shows an amazing lack of understanding of what made Hitchhiker’s so good in the first place. Here’s a clue: it’s not the story. Douglas Adams had no real idea of how to string a long-form narrative together – that’s why the plot is so fluid. It’s the ideas and – let’s be quite clear about this – the use of language which make Hitchhiker’s so enjoyable and so perennially popular. Douglas was a comedy sketch writer. His forte was brilliant dialogue in intricately constructed little three-minute bursts and all the best bits of the story, like Mr Prosser’s scene, are self-contained sketches.

    …and it’s the fact that they took the plot, removed all the funny bits, and then made random changes which added no further funny, that he seems to object to.
