Mmm… rum. In three hours, I’m going to go drink rum with some coworkers. I can’t wait.

I recommend Bacardi’s 1873. I always mix my rum, but I met many a rum drinker at the liquor store last summer that enjoyed it on ice. They also liked Woods.

I do that sort of thing at times. I have a collection of “proper” glasses for different types of wines and other drinks, but that doesn’t mean I won’t pour whatever into a coffee mug if the mood strikes me.

My father went through a period of drinking a small quantity of white rum daily, only being my father, and not caring about doing things properly as long as the end result is the same, he would drink it out of one of my mother’s dozens and dozens of dainty bone china coffee cups, which are patterned with flowers. Once or twice I joined him and it was like being at a speakeasy.

My brother is a rum drinker (but I wouldn’t call him a connoisseur, just…whatever’s around). He absolutely detests Pepsi because, according to him, it’s too sweet to mix with rum. Which I could believe. I don’t mix anything with Pepsi, so I’m fine with drinking it. :)

~drools~ Rum balls. I haven’t found anywhere that makes good ones in Ottawa.

I’ve always liked rum, well, since I was ~insert underage drinking age here~. I think white rums are not as tasty so it’s no wonder you didn’t like it @ first! And probably because you were a kid =P

Cuba was where I first experienced Havana Club. If memory serves me correctly, I also brought back a bottle of 7-year, purchased from the Romeo y Julieta factory in Havana. :)

Oh, that's different. Rum in food? No problem. Rum balls have been my favorite for ages. It just tastes like sweet spiced things, though, not like rum, and especially not like white rum!

I brought back a bottle of 7 year-old Havana Club from Cuba. Might fine stuff!

But your post leaves me perplexed… if you didn’t like rum, what do you put on your fruit cake?
